The brief

January 2023, iwoca embarked on a space journey to expand its presence in Germany, aligning perfectly with their aim of simplifying financial solutions for small businesses. iwoca is a fintech company that provides small business loans and flexible credit facilities to entrepreneurs and businesses in the United Kingdom and in Germany. The company specializes in offering quick and accessible financing solutions to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to support their growth and working capital needs. iwoca is driven by a vision to empower small businesses, firmly emphasizing that financial support should be a source of empowerment rather than a burden.

Simultaneously, our space mission, in collaboration with our freelance partner, Nicole Breforth, had a singular, well-defined goal: to cement iwoca as a prominent and profoundly influential partner of choice in the fintech industry. To accomplish this, we proactively leveraged our established network while forging new and vibrant alliances with like-minded partners, ensuring a substantial, and long-lasting impact.

The campaign

It quickly became clear that iwoca’s primary objective was to elevate their brand’s awareness, especially within key sectors such as national media, fintech, finance, lending, and banking. This involved a significant focus on strengthening iwoca’s position within the German fintech and lending sector, which marked a crucial step toward achieving the company’s overarching goals. The campaign aimed to align with these objectives and expectations.

Our core strategy focussed on harnessing data-driven PR stories and surveys as the cornerstone of iwoca’s brand narrative. Through the creation of engaging narratives and thought-provoking surveys, the objective was to promote their distinct brand identity and secure broad media coverage across diverse platforms. This heightened emphasis on fintech solutions was aimed at bolstering iwoca’s credibility and trustworthiness among essential stakeholders, underpinned by a flexible communications tool for maintaining consistent messaging across all communication channels.

We undertook several activities, such as conducting a survey and publishing thought leadership pieces. Additionally, we also made a notable announcement regarding Fabian Platzen‘s appointment as the new Head of Germany at iwoca. This development garnered attention from respected media outlets such as Finanz-Szene, Finance FWD, and Börsen-Zeitung.

Moreover, we achieved significant highlights through various interviews conducted with Handelsblatt, Finanz-Szene, FinanceFWD and Onlinehändler News. In these discussions, Fabian Platzen shared his insights about iwoca, his role within the company, and the changing market dynamics.

Every space mission faces its challenges, and iwoca’s journey with us was no exception. We constantly refined our topic suggestions through regular team reviews and agile PR plans. Initially, our ideas might have been too similar to what competitors proposed or what the media had already extensively covered. However, with time, we figured out the right topics to focus on and which new subjects to bring to the forefront. One key lesson for both our clients and us is the enduring nature of PR. Some things simply can’t be rushed. Building relationships with journalists through conversations was a priority for us—an investment that paid off over time, yielding long-term results.
