With Gen Z emerging as the most sought-after talent pool, the agency sector grapples with deciphering their desires and attracting them effectively. Little known to many, boomer parents are the unsung heroes increasingly involved in their Gen Z offspring's job search, going as far as “lurking on Zoom job interviews with Gen-Z applicants to tell them what to ask”.

Recognizing this evolving landscape, we at Laika seized the opportunity to address the application behavior of the next generation. Enter Bring your Parent to Work Day: an initiative designed to enlighten boomer parents of applicants, as well as existing employees, on the ins and outs of "working in media".

Parental attendees were invited to delve into what working at our spaceship entails, explore the development opportunities available to Gen Z, and uncover the earning potential within the industry. Amidst a relaxed atmosphere, negotiations with management took place, and engaging activities like "What does my child actually do here?" quizzes fostered understanding. The exchange with other agency parents served to enrich the experience for all involved. Attendees also enjoyed refreshments, including "boomer-approved" snacks and "Gen Z-inspired" mocktails, while grooving to a playlist featuring hits from both eras. It's an evening where generations collide, bridging the gap between the "Ok, Boomer" and "Ok, Zoomer" worlds. Agency Parent Night was a hybrid event, catering to both in-person attendees and remote parents who dialed in via Zoomer for Boomer, showcasing the agency's commitment to inclusivity and accessibility in the digital age.

Father Thorsten explains: "Bring your Parent to Work Day was like unlocking the mysteries of the Matrix. Suddenly, I understand why my child spends hours on TikTok and speaks in memes. Plus, negotiating their salary was a walk in the park—I've been honing my bargaining skills since the days of disco!"

Our Laika Space Dog Emily adds: "I never thought I'd see the day when my parents would be discussing my career and salary with my boss. But at Bring your Parent to Work Day, we found common ground and while my raise might not buy me any apartment any time soon, it sure covers more avocado toast"

Our Space Captain Ela expresses her satisfaction with the response to the inaugural parent evening: "We're thrilled with the enthusiasm surrounding Bring your Parent to Work Day. It's a fantastic opportunity to bridge the gap between generations, promote understanding, and perhaps even unearth some hidden talents among our parent attendees. Plus, it adds a whole new dimension to our 'family-friendly workplace' ethos! After all, if you can bring your dog to work, why not also your dad?"

As the first Bring your Parent to work Day came to a close, we continued our new space journey with optimism, knowing that through initiatives like these, we can continue to bridge the gap between generations. We took with us the laughter and meaningful conversations of a union of generations. At Laika, our journey is always better when we travel together.
