The brief

Boldare is an award-winning digital product design and development company and a guide on digital transformation. The holocratic company emerged in 2018 from the successful combination of the software developer XSolve and the web design agency Chilid. Since 2004 they built together over 270 complex, custom-made products for clients around the world and guided teams to transform their development processes and change the way how they deliver and build digital products. For their work Boldare has been honored with the German Design Award, Awwwards, Lovie Awards, the Indigo Award, a Webby Honoree and many other prizes for its products and solutions.

Despite this great customer track record, Boldare was not widely known in the DACH region when the company approached Laika for communications support in 2020.

Therefore the mission for our pack of space dogs was clear: Let’s change this!

Along the way we complemented our strategy to also highlight the various faces behind Boldare and emphasize the company’s self-organization, holacracy and new work approach. Our goal was to position Boldare as experts for product design and development by sharing their broad expertise.

The campaign

Digital transformation does not wait. If you want to make the change today, you need a strong partner who not only helps to improve business processes and guide partners in their digital transformation efforts.

Boldare develops and designs digital products, such as web platforms, mobile apps and custom software solutions that solve their partner’s business needs. Their user-centered approach is designed for and by humans - which enables teams to focus on the real needs of users. Boldare also works under holocracy, a decentralized management method that supports flat organization and dispersed leadership.

What does it mean for PR? One of our challenges was to find the right balance between business, tech and IT press and establish Boldare as an innovative and unique problem solver for digital products, a software developer and ambassador for New Work and holocracy. Despite numerous customers from the DACH market, visibility was still limited, and with a non-German management team on the customer side, we faced a very competitive market. We took the challenge to create an effective PR strategy based on thought leadership with in-depth bylines about design, software development and effective collaboration for specialized media outlets and combined it with interviews in broader media outlets like GQ or t3n.

Our comms list of to do’s included:

  • Developing a thought leadership voice for Boldare in DACH on topics such as agile organization, holocracy, remote work, digital product and software development and modern management styles with bylines.

  • Aligning Boldare comms campaigns with the need of the DACH media landscape by listening to journalist feedback and setting up media monitoring for Boldare related topics.

  • Planning and implementing cooperations with selected media targets for exclusive bylines and interviews.

  • Supporting and developing a persona with the internal Boldare team for both Co-CEO’s and updating the messaging for the company.

  • Strategically sourcing relevant industry events and supporting Boldare’s own events.

The work has paid off. Overall, we were able to regularly secure exclusive contributions, including multiple articles in tier-1 tech media such as t3n and targeted trade publications such as Dev-Insider, It-Zoom or Wirtschaft + Markt and It-daily. Finally, co-CEO Anna Zardukzka, had the opportunity to speak in an interview with GQ and on the Future Candy podcast, and close associates presented in detail how Boldare works on Golem. In total, we were able to win over 46 publications for Boldare and reached over 88 million readers.

"Laika's unique skillset in shaping messages and stories, combined with in-depth understanding of Boldare's UVP has set us up for success in the German market. Thanks to their help our company has secured coverage in a variety of media outlets from specialist magazines to household titles. We are looking forward to continuing this partnership in the future."
