April Fools: Ghostlist - why we made a fake app
Yesterday, we “launched” Ghostlist® – the ultimate agency revenge app against client ghosting. April, April as we say in Germany! But here’s the uncomfortable truth: Ghostlist® is fake. But the problem isn’t: Ghosting isn’t fiction – it’s the cold reality. The stats we shared yesterday? Not made up. They’re the frustrating reality of agency life: 30% of new business inquiries end in radio silence.
So no, we didn’t build an app. But we did build a solution: Say hello to the Commitment Fee – designed to restore fairness, respect, and accountability in client-agency relationships. Here’s how it works in Laika’s new business process from now on:
New prospects sign a short clear commitment agreement (alongside our NDA) before we start working on a proposal.
14-day feedback rule: After receiving our proposal, clients have 14 calendar days to respond – with a clear “yes,” “no,” or thoughtful questions.
Non-response consequence: Two reminders later, no reply? A flat €1,000 fee (plus VAT) applies as a consequence of ghosting behavior,
Fairness guarantee: If the project surprisingly moves forward later, the fee is, of course fully credited to the project budget.
“Ghosting isn’t just rude – it’s a systemic drain on resources,” according to our CEO Ela. “Every proposal carries hours of work, strategy, and passion. Ignoring isn’t just bad manners – it blocks real resources. If you ask for professional advice, the least you can do is to respond professionally.”
Our goal? Reset the standard for communication and mutual respect. The Commitment Fee isn’t meant as punishment – it’s a mindset shift back toward more professional, fair, and reliable collaboration. What do you think? Is it radical? Maybe. Overdue? Absolutely.
We’d love to hear your thoughts – beyond April Fools’ Day, this is a conversation we need to have.
